Although we try to keep politics (read: Yankees versus Red Sox) out of the blog, it is impossible to skim the news for references to Williams without coming across George Steinbrenner ’52, principle owner of the Yankees.

Rubenstein: “How do you feel about the Broadway theater, sir?”

Steinbrenner: “I was with the Nederlanders, you know. Backed some shows myself. And did I ever mention I sang at Williams College with Steve Sondheim?”

Rubenstein (under his breath): “Only a few thousand times.”

Steinbrenner: “What?”

Rubenstein: “Maybe once or twice, sir.”

If only the Red Sox were owned by an Amherst graduate, we could have a lot of fun . . .
