Joe Cruz has a new philosophical question at his WSO blog.

Suppose you had the magical power to save the life of someone who was otherwise on the brink of death. So, someone terminally ill, or a starving child during her last hours of life, or someone tragically severely wounded would, with a mere willfull touch by you, be restored to full health. A person dying of old age would be made physically younger by many years.

Here’s the thing, though. For every time you use this power, you lose a day of your own life.

The flurry of comments that followed Cruz’s last such question has yet to develop, but Robert Pickard ’05 does want to clarify one point.

if i save my dog’s life, does that mean i lose seven days?
