An interesting e-mail came across the class of 1988 list server last night.

Your classmate, John Wily Rahill, would love to hear from you! He’s somewhere in harms way, flying F-16s! Here’s what he wrote to me

Hi, I’m over here for just over 3 months, 2/3 of the way done. Can’t say exactly where I’m stationed, but I’m flying F-16s with my Air National Guard Squadron, the Green Mountain Boys. We don’t need anything sent over, thanks, but it would be nice to get emails from some Ephs. My email here is

john.rahill _at_

Things are going well, we’re very busy, 24/7 ops.
Take Care, Wily (John Rahill, ’88)

Thank you,

Stewart Menking ’79

FYI, the Class of 1979 started the Williams College AdoptAnAlum Program to support Williams alums who are in harms way. The program provides a-political support most importantly in the form of e-mails and letters.

In addition, we send boxes of “luxuries” to alums who need a few of the comforts of home. For Kathy Sharpe Jones ’79, we are sending luxury items such as toilet paper, shampoo, soap and the like. If you want to know more about the Williams College AdoptAnAlum Program, please e-mail me @ StewMenking _at_

All of which is great stuff. I’ll be posting more information on this effort as it becomes available. As a side note, it isn’t clear to me if “Wily” is Rahill’s civilian nickname or his military call sign. I am pretty sure that he went by “JR” back in the day. I’m also not sure what the provenance of “Wily” would be.
