Rich Ephs

Herb Allen ’62 and Steve Case ’80 are both still on the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans. Case is number 363 on the list with a net worth estimated at $825 million while Allen is at 106 with a net worth of $2 billion.

Strangely enough, Allen is listed as a college drop out. Doesn’t he have a degree from Williams?

Trivia question: Are there any other Ephs on the list? I see at least one more . . .

On a sad note, it seems like all the Ephs on the list (as well as many, many of the other men) have been divorced at least once. It is better to be married to a good Ephwomen for the rest of your life than to be a billionaire. More useful advice from EphBlog.

While I was looking around on there, I found this which I am assuming is Daft’s place (Coke CEO that is stepping down). Now that his son is no longer up there and he doesn’t need to stay as close to Allen, perhaps he has decided to get rid of this place.
I don’t know that it is his, but I assumed that it was from the location, size, and the fact that it references the owner and Georgia (Coke).
Off the top of my head, I don’t recall seeing that house on runs – although I don’t know exactly where that is, so it is feasible I never ran near enough to know it was there.

As for the others on the list:

This guy used to be on the list, but isn’t currently.

Abigail Johnson of Fidelity family shows up in one search as having gone to Williams – but in a more recent entry shows that it was Williams Smith College (and then Harvard).

There are more that show up under “most powerful CEOs”, but I don’t see any in the rich Americans list.

If you are allowed to count the world, then I think there are a few more to throw on there.

Edgar Bronfman attended Williams before transferring to McGill. A number of his relatives have attended Williams since.

Bronfman’s entry is here. He is at 79 on the list with $2.5 billion. Note that if it were not for the remarkable wealth-destroying activities of his son, Edgar Bronfman, Jr, he would be much higher on the list.

The Alumni Directory still has him as a 1950 graduate. In Stephen Birrell’s dreams! ;-)

There are three other Bronfman’s listed: Samuel ’75, Matthew ’81 and Stephen ’86.

Among all Ephs, Bronfman is both the highest listed and the most divorced (3 times). Make of that what you will . . .

Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn’t fucking have any.

Money is the root of all good.
