With the South’s well-documented success of combining call and response music and fairly trivial dance, I’m convinced that the cultural juncture contemporary hip-hop finds itself within is far more than a simple trend– it’s hereditary! Taking the oral tradition of West African call and response into full consideration, am I the only person who thinks this is a logical explanation for hip hop’s current predicament?
“Laffy taffy”, “Lean Wit’ It Rock Wit'”, “Shoulder Lean”, “Chicken Noodle Soup” and now, “Walk It Out”.
As the list gets longer my arsenal of moves for the dance floor increases exponentially.
I can not make the same claim.
