Subject: Stetson-Sawyer

To the Williams Community,

Tomorrow is a day that many on campus have long dreamed about and/or worked toward–the beginning of the Stetson-Sawyer project.

The first step will be installing fencing around the construction area for the North Academic Building. A sketch of that area is here. It also shows the construction area for the South Academic Building, the fencing for which will go up just after Reunion Weekend this June.

To help those walking around the site, new sidewalks will be installed to the east of Bernhard Music Center and on Sawyer Drive. Note that people also will be able to walk through the current Sawyer Library entrance until that building comes down. Meanwhile, parking on Sawyer Drive will be eliminated.

In addition to fencing, there will be utility work and tree removal north of Sawyer to prepare for blasting, which will begin next week during Spring Break. Further communication about blasting will be forthcoming.

We appreciate your patience as we start this exciting project.

Questions may be addressed to the project manager, Bruce Decoteau, at x3225 or Bruce.J.Decoteau@williams.edu.

To remind you, the North and South Academic Buildings are scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester. Work then begins on the new Sawyer Library. The project’s final stage, taking down the current Sawyer Library Building is expected to be completed in 2011.

A great project for a set of great purposes. Many thanks to all who have worked hard to bring us to this day.

Regards,
Steve Klass
