Special thanks to “Aparent” for an update from the Williams College Presidential Search Committee.

“For those in the Williams community who are truly interested in the progress the Presidential Search Committee is reporting, here is the text of Thursday’s announcement:”

Milestones mapped; outreach meetings continue
February 19, 2009

To the Williams Community,

The Presidential Search Committee held its second in-person meeting in Williamstown on Thursday morning, February 12.

There were three primary objectives of the meeting. First, John Isaacson and Maggie Gilmore ’05 of search firm Isaacson, Miller helped the committee map out a tentative schedule of milestones and meetings. Second, President Schapiro addressed the committee, offering his insights into the Williams presidency and advice for us.

Finally, the committee would like you to know that we have formed sub-groups to coordinate the continuing process of soliciting input from all constituencies. This will include a range of focus group and open meetings. You will receive notices of events for the group to which you belong — students, faculty, or staff.

Events held to date and the schedule is posted at the Community Outreach link on this website.

From here, you can also send us your thoughts directly. Many have already used the Web form to identify the issues they think Williams will face in the short and long run, the attributes they believe we should stress in evaluating nominees, and the individuals they recommend we consider.

All this valuable input will guide our writing of the prospectus that will describe the College at this point in its history and articulate the attributes we will value most in candidates.

Our thanks go to all those in the College community who have given us their insights. Since wider engagement will contribute to a more effective search process, we encourage you to join them.

Sincerely,

Greg Avis ’80

Chair, 2009 Presidential Search Committee”
