The Board is very pleased that Ken Thomas ‘93 has accepted the position of Ombudsperson (Pro Tem).

In six years, 5000 posts, and 35,000 comments, EphBlog has managed to resolve 99.9% of disagreements satisfactorily through good will and give-and-take.

There have been very few cases in which intervention was needed. In two of these cases, an arbitrary decision was reached. In the third, Ken served as Ombudsperson.

The difference in results was amazing! In the first two cases, discussion was cut off. In the case in which Ken served, the results were much more open and important dialogues started. It is hoped that these dialogues will continue and that EphBlog can reach out to all in the Williiams community.

A working definition of Ombudsperson is ‘one who investigate complaints and mediates fair settlements, especially between aggrieved parties such as consumers or students and an institution or organization’. The Board is very glad Ken has made himself available to do this.

Ken Thomas has an extensive background in linguistics, rhetoric, and internet communications. Ken is well-known to all of us at EphBlog and has the complete trust of the board to resolve these matters, rare as they may be.

This important position will be added to the FAQ:

Ombudsperson. EphBlog has an Ombudsperson working as ‘one who investigates complaints and mediates fair settlements, especially between aggrieved parties such as consumers or students and an institution or organization’.

In six years, 5000 posts, and 35,000 comments, EphBlog has managed to resolve 99.9% of disagreements satisfactorily through good will and give-and-take.

However, there have been several instances in which intervention was necessary. The Board reaches out to the Ombudsperson in these rare instances to investigate problems and has complete confidence in the Ombudsperson’s resolutions.
