A San Antonio Express-News piece earlier today on the weird number progression of the date and time (exactly fifteen minutes ago, in the Eastern time zone) included a quote from everyone’s favorite comedy writer / Eph math professor:

Edward Burger, a mathematics professor at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., won’t be celebrating.

“It’s a very silly thing,” Burger said.

He added, “But it allows everyone to remember one of the important life lessons, which is to always look for patterns. And just the habit of living, to search for patterns, even if we don’t see any, it would often reveal certain nuance.”

One example is spirals on a pineapple, he said.

Silver lining!
