Williamstown Update

In-progress construction photos of the future home of the Pub, among other businesses:

The interior space looks like it has a lot of character; if done right (which includes, in my mind, incorporating the same array of quirky Williams and region-related artifacts) this should be a fantastic bar space, far more spacious and attractive than the original Pub, without being antiseptic, the biggest fear I had when I first heard of a new location.  This is already an enormous building in terms of square footage, and from the looks of it, it will be far larger once completed (particularly in the rear).  I imagine it will be quite a challenge filling up all of that additional office and retail space.

Jeff – Thank you for this.

It looks as though they are saving the arched side window nearest the street, which pleases me. I had noticed how handsome it was when I was up here in June.

You are right that filling up all that space will be difficult in these times. Perhaps Paresky will include some small offices (maybe with shared services and certainly with shared bathrooms) that semi-retired alumni could lease. I am always surprised when my Google alert for Williamstown brings me a story from the Purple Valley of market analysts and others who are based there. It seems as though there are a lot of small (in personnel) ventures in town. I’m not one to shill a Paresky venture but, if any of you engages in a portable venture, Williamstown might be a wonderful venue (especially if there’s amountain view out the window of your new office).

Does anyone know anything about the history of this building? I’m curious about when it was built. It’s pretty clear that it has gone through a lot of modifications (and maybe expansions) over time.

[…] Jeff is also in on this. My favorite Jeff post in July was this one, but indeed, his 4 part series on Williamstown was wonderful. Now, Jeff can’t (?) go to […]
