• Congrats to Williams for winning its fifth(!) ECAC Jostens award. Only Princeton has also won multiple awards, and they’ve won just two.
  • Dave Clawson leads Bowling Green to an impressive upset victory in his first game as head coach. Frank Uible has the following comment: “For those few of you who might care, please note that yesterday evening Dave Clawson’s Bowling Green State University football team came back from a 0-14 deficit and upset favored Troy University, 31-14, with 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Bowling Green led in most statistical categories while relying offensively mostly on the pass. One swallow does not make a summer, and Troy is not the University of Florida, but maybe, just maybe, Tennessee’s troubles last year were due to persons and things other than Clawson. Take that Lou Holtz – who made a snide, invidiously comparing comment on the air last fall about Williams when Clawson’s offense at Tennessee was struggling.” Be sure to save the date of October 24th, when Clawson locks horns with Mike Bajakian’s Central Michigan offense in an Eph offensive mastermind showdown.
  • Speaking of Bajakian and Central Michigan, they did not fare as well, with Bajakian’s high-powered offense largely shut down by a bigger, more athletic Pac 10 foe, Arizona. Central Michigan lost 19-6.
  • Kevin Morris may have had the most impressive debut: his UMass squad nearly pulled off a monumental upset over Big 12 power Kansas State, falling 21-17.
  • Nice article on Rebecca Fine ’13, who has overcome some adversity to be a track and field star.
  • Check Sports Information for previews of all the fall Eph sports teams; most are already posted.
