NCAA Wrestling: 197 Pound Overview

Ryan Malo ’11, a returning All American, is seeded second and is looking to bring home a national championship.  Malo’s season record stands at 43-4 with an incredible 38 of his wins coming by pin. Malo leads the NCAA (at all divisions) in the pin category. Malo has been ranked second nationally behind Augsburg’s junior Jared Massey, who defeated Malo in last year’s NCAA finals.  As the second seed, Malo is on the other side of the bracket and has the 3rd place finisher from the Iowa conference Brian Broll of Buena Vista in his first match.

The smart money has Malo and Massey again meeting in the finals.  Last year’s match was won by Massey on his feet.  Malo has greatly improved his game in neutral and I anticipate a very competitive and entertaining match.

The d3wrestle.com preview of the 197 pound weight class will be posted this morning and can be found at this link.
