Today’s wrestling update is on the national and conference rankings.

Team Rankings

There is one national and one conference ranking.

1. The Brute/Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association.  This national ranking is conducted on a bi-weekly basis throughout the season, and is based on the input of six coaches (including Coach Hasenfus of Williams) that cover the nine D3 wrestling conferences. In the October 22nd pre-season edition, Williams was ranked 13th—the highest of any New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) team (Springfield College is ranked 19th). The ranking can be found at this link: http://www.d3wrestle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/NWCA-Teaml-Rankings-1-20101022.pdf

2. NEWA Conference.  This ranking is generally published on a weekly basis and in the November 8th pre-season coaches poll, Williams is ranked 1st, receiving 10 of 12 first place votes.  The ranking can be found at this link:  http://www.d3wrestle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/NEWA-Coaches-Poll-1-11.8.10.pdf.

Individual Rankings

On an individual basis, there are two national and one conference ranking.

1. Brute/Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association. This national ranking publishes the top ten wrestlers in each weight class. The ranking can be found at this link:  http://www.d3wrestle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/NWCA-Individual-Rankings-1-20101022.pdf.

2. d3wrestle.com. This national ranking is published periodically throughout the season by the head coach at Gettysburg College (who started and manages the website that is a fantastic source of information for all things D3 Wrestling). For each weight class he publishes the top ten along with “The Contenders” (guys who are on the brink of breaking into the top ten) and “Honorable Mention”. If a wrestler is in one of these three categories, he is ranked in the top 25 in the nation. It can be found at this link: http://www.d3wrestle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Ranking_Prelim_20100920.pdf.

3. NEWA Conference.  The coaches rank the top eight wrestlers by weight class.  Williams has a wrestler ranked in nine of ten weight classes.  The ranking can be found at this link:    http://www.d3wrestle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/NEWA-Individual-Rankings-Pre-season-10.29.pdf
