I won’t supply a Williams connection except the qualities of humanity, empathy, and dedication as a part of this Williams community.

Barbara Bush to her credit has behaved as one expects a grande dame of a classic American political family to behave.

The Williams connection is that her husband was commencement speaker in 1996, so, presumably, she has visited Williams.

I met her only once. She was out in the Berkshires in the fall of 1988 doing a last minute get out the vote effort. I remember many of the local Republican activists, including me, were inspired to see her and appreciative of her efforts. This was true even though we all knew that a Republican win in MA was out of the question.

I remember when he spoke at Williams. He also spoke at Boston University when he was president the year of my graduation in 1989.

He was probably the most qualified person to ever be president- if you take into consideration his resume, it is amazing how much he had done in government prior to taking the helm.
