A Paean to Pruitt: A Song from Britton ’56 …

downloadIndeed! Another song in that Peter Britton ’56 particular style. This one an ode to Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Scott Pruitt, who seems to have no regard for anyone’s environment except his own.

It is a pleasure to be able to post the work of an old classmate. And let’s face it … all my classmates are old. The words are by Peter, the music by Nashvilles’ own Tim Lorch, and the back-up band is according to Peter, ” one Polish gypsy on violin, a studio musician on bass, and a blind Iowa farm boy on piano, guitar, accordion and sax”.

The words are beneath the fold if you want to sing along.

T-RUMP & TOADIES
INTRO
FOLKS IN THE KNOW SAID, PRUITT, DON’T DO IT
PRUITT SAY, NATURE? WE GOTTA SCREW IT;.
       AND MOSES OPINiON?
       WE GOT DOMINION
SO PARIS FAILS, COAL BURNS—AND PRUITT DID DO IT
1.
PRUITT’S ACCUSED FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS
HIS CRIMES ARE ENVIRONMENTAL TREASONS
       FROM COAL’S REDUX
       MORE CO2 INNFLUX
FROM THIS MAN OF OBSESSIVE DISPLEASINS
2.
DOES ZINKE THINK HE’S STILL A TOP SEAL
GUARDING US ALL WITH ELITE SEAL ZEAL
       HIS OCS PLOY
       IS DONALD’S BIG TOY:
CREATING OUTRAGE TO HIDE HIS NEXT DEAL
3.
WHAT COULD BEARS EARS TO ENERGY BE?
IS OCS REALLY PART OF THE SEA?
       IN CASE YOU’RE CONFUSED
       AGHAST OR BEMUSED
BLAME TRUMP, ON A MORE BERSERKER SPREE
4.
MAY HE WAKE UP TO COCONUT CRABS
STRADDLING HIS JOHNSON, FLENSING HIS FLABS
       SNAPPING AT FINGERS,
       CHEWING ON TOES
AMBUSING OUTBURSTS WITH PEACE UP FOR GRABS
5.
HAYSTACKS CALHOUN AND GORILLA MONSOON
WERE SWEET COMPARED TO OUR PRESIDENT GOON
       THEY KNeW THEIR JOBS WELL
       TRUMP FOLLOWS HELL’S BELL
A BABOON MAROONED IN D.C.’S TYPHOON
6.
TRUMP IS KNOWN FOR HIS AUDACITY
AND HIS TUB-THUMPING MAD-DOG MENDACITY;
       DID WE LOSE OUR MINDS
       OR JUST GO STONE BLIND?
AND HIS WORST TRAIT IS SNEAKY SALACITY
7.
IN A WORLD UNABASHEDLY JUST
TRUMP WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST
       BUT AS THIS WORLD IS
       ALL SIZZLE AND FIZZ
HIS COMBUST IS MORE ILLEGIT LUST
8.
PLEASE PLEASSE PLEASE BOBBY THREE STICKS MUELLER
WAIT ANY LONGER AND YOUR SHINE GETS DULLER
       THIS MAN IS A BRUTE
       AND COMEY’S ASTUTE—
QUASH THIS BUMBLING HORNDOG CURB CRULLER

OUTRO

OUR BRILLIANT WORLD DESERVES NOT THIS SCATTERBRAINED EGO?

Nothing like the protest songs of the left. Reminds me of my youth. Meanwhile, here’s a Sunday plein air painting in honor of the esteemed Mr. Swart.

John.

I am honored indeed! This is your personal vision of what might otherwise have been just another en plein air painting. The brush technique really pays off! Are using a knife at all?

I find your composition rock-solid. And this is what provides the base strong enough to have your almost completely abstract brush strokes able to keep their strength without falling off the canvas.

Very nice, John. Thank you for the honor.

Best,

Dick

A passing thought:

As I was writing about Pruitt’s regard for the environment (above), I was thinking of HMS Pinafore when Rackstraw says to the bos’n, quoting Sir Joseph Porter …

As he says, a British seaman is any man’s equal excepting his own.

No wonder Gilbert never got his K while Sullivan did.

Thx. As always, you are too kind. I worked the composition. I think I’ve been underestimating how important it is because I’ve been so focused on color and impasto brush strokes. I’m going to work on it a little more today. I think I left a big green rabbit in the middle of the painting. I’m going to smush it down a little. I think I’ll add more detail to the yellow mustard plants too. I’d like to get a better sense of perspective. Ah. True Sunday painting…

The prolific Mr Britton has added four new verses to the post above. How long can Mr Pruitt keep his position?

And here they are:

9.
THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH IS
MUCH FURTHER FROM NEW YORK THAN NATCHEZ
FROM LITTERERS SPASTIC
SARCASTIC, BOMBASTIC
YOU’LL RETCH WHEN YOU SEE WHAT YOUR CATCH IS

10.
PRUITT AND ZINKE ARE DICEY TRUMP CLONES
IRRESPONSIBLE FOSSIL FUEL DRONES
THEY DISS ALL OF SCIENCE.
HAVE NO TRUTH RELIANCE
THEY’RE A PAIR ON A TEAR, AS EARTH GROANS

11.
THE SILENCE OF INSECTS. FROGS AND CLAMS
SHOULD WORRY THE HELL OUT OF HUMANS, LAMBS.
JUST LOOK AT YOUR WIND SCREEN,
REMEMBER WHAT BUGS MEAN
AND MAYBE WE’LL EXIT THIS LOGJAM

12.
THE MAN WANTS WHAT HE WANTS WHEN HE WANTS IT
THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE RUNS THE GAUNTLET
KIM PLAYS HIS PART WELL
HIS NUKES RING TRUMP’S BELL
AND DON GLOATS AND PREENS LIKE A PISSANTLET

Dick’s highly selective and perpetual outrage does not apparently extend to Gina McCarthy, under whose leadership the EPA became America’s biggest waterways polluter:

And unlike McCarthy’s EPA, at least the Pruitt EPA actually reviewed claims.
