It looks like Rep. Jason Chaffetz took a shot at the Williams Record while he was guest hosting the Ingram Angle on April 22, 2019. The issue was the editorial board’s endorsement of affinity (segregated) housing.

Most schools have affinity housing. Williams is actually relatively unusual in not currently offering it. That’s among the ironies of this current conservative backlash against Williams.

Also, are men’s clubs segregated? What about fraternities or sororities? BYU? Saint John’s? Wellesley? Is Lambda Phi Epsilon? Or South Carolina’s Forest Lake Club?
If we’re going to have a discussion about segregation, let’s have a discussion about segregation.

Looks like it is news, as long as it happens at Williams.
Demands for Segregated Housing at Williams College Are Not News

Chafetz spit the bit and ran away from Congress when GrifterKing neutered him.
He ran instead to suck at the Fox teat for big bucks.
The fact that he’s braying about anything on Faux News is nothin, even though (like a broken clock) he may be right twice a day.

I think the difference is fraternities are privately owned – not part of a college’s housing stock.

Dal — is that not a distinction without a difference?

Seems like they are two different categories with all the related different legal etc. status.
Are there fraternities left that racially segregate themselves? Somehow I would doubt it.
But the idea of the college supporting separate swim lanes through all aspects of college life based on race seems a mistake.

@Dal, I don’t think there are legally relevant differences. But in any event, we’re also not talking about legality here.
Normatively, I don’t see why segregation would be cool for a fraternity (and yes, there are still “segregated” fraternities and sororities — at least insofar as what Williams is considering can be fairly described as “segregation”) or a country club (ditto) or a college as a whole (ditto), but not in Williams housing.
